Contents Research 1

This is the first magazine contents page that i am researching. This particular contents page is one of a magazine cover that used earlier. NME. I dont really like this contents page as much as the others I will use. Before I begin analysing the contents page I would just say that I think it stands out that they have put the name of the magazine in the corner as a logo.
Firstly, the colours of the page dont match most of the covers i used earlier, for example the main colour really is pink. Nearly all of the stories and text and even the border is in pink. I think that it is very affective how the editors have mixed pink and black together to make it stand out and match the front cover.
Another point about the contents that the text is in loads of different fonts. The only real bad point about this is that it probably doesnt match the front cover. However, a good point about this is that it stands out and keeps the reader attarcted to the magazine because if the front cover is pleasing enough that the reader will buy it then they want to be satisfied that the rest of the magazine will satisfying.
Secondly, this contents page stands fo me because it has loads of adverts across the page. The adverts stand out aswell because the text is in bright colours and is in large text so the reader can see it.

Magazine Cover 3

This is the third magazine cover that i am researching. This magazine cover is quite similar to the first cover. However, name of the magazne doesnt spread across the top of the page, it is just in the corner because it is only one letter.
The layout is a little bit different to the first and second cover because you still have the main image/cover shot in the middle of the page but the splash is layered over the image whereas the other headlines are either under the image or around it. There isnt a 'frame' of stories around the main image on this magazine, unlike the first cover. There isnt even loads of stories on the front cover, there is only 4 at the most and thats including the splash.
The colours are quite plain on this cover. The only main colours are red and white, however there is only one word that they want to stand out, which they have put in yellow because it is the name of a famous band. They have kept it plain and simple.
Nearly all of the images on the cover are close ups of the celebrities faces, like on the last 2 covers. This is a technique that many music magazine companies are using. Basically i think tha technique is very affective because it shows all of the celebrities' facial expressions, so you know how they are feeling or what they are thinking.

idea

I thought I would post an idea i had this morning. I decided that on the front of the magazine cover and maybe on the double page spread, I would put on a competition. Such as ''Win a Ipod'' or ''Win a brand new guitar signed by...'' etc
This could catch the readers attention more.

Magazine Cover 2 (research)

This is my second magazine cover that i am researching. As you can see this is quite different to the first magazine cover. This one is different because it doesnt have a main image, it only has one small image on the left of the page. The rest of the cover is all text and headlines. Personally, I really like this magazine cover because most of it had been edited into the picture and layered so that it stands out.
First of all the colours used on the front are different to the first magazine because they are more vibrant and eye catching. They have used colours such as red, yellow, purple, black and some that we may not even see in the background. I think it affective that the title of the magazine (NME) is in one colour (red) and it hasnt been used on anything else on the page. Then, the important headlines are all in yellow or very bright colours so they catch your eye. However the not so important topics/stories are all either in black or white, but they all have different background colours to make them stand out.
What is also affective is that the text is all in different fonts and all in different sizes. This shows that the language must be informal. I would prefer this front cover to the last one I researched because the attention to detail is brilliant. They have tried to put as much text on this page as they can and you can tell that it has been carefully worked on.
The layout on this magazine cover is completely different to the first cover. Unlike the first cover the text doesnt surround the main image, it is spread out all over the page. There is a lot more text than the first cover and most of it is advertising. It is advertising that there are lots of prizes to be given out in the magazine and that would get more people to buy and read it.

Magazine Cover 1 (research)

This is the first magazine cover that i will research. As you can see the image is from the cover of Vibe magazine. To start with the main image is layered over the masthead, this maybe because the image of the person is quite important and the small headlines are layered of the main image. Another point is that the text/headlines are placed around the outside of the page to act as a frame.
The colours of the text are quite affective aswell because they stand out and catch your eye. I believe that the magazine would be aimed at men and women because the text has no femine colours like pink or purple, they are all either white or green, even the important words and numbers are printed in green. However, the image of the model on the front is aimed at women because the model is handsome and made to look cool.
Another point about the text is that the size of it is changes. The important headlines are all in large sizes and are bold, however the unimportant stories are all small and dont catch the reader's eye as much. The language in this magazine doesnt look very formal because the text isnt even straight lines and it spread out everywhere across the page.
There is some hints on the front of the magazine that show that it could be a very dull and boring because the image of the celebrity gives it away. The camera angle of the shot is a medium close-up and you can see his face, which shows he is quite sad and depressed.
Overall, my views on this cover are quite good because things the image, the text and even the language catches your eye and makes you want to read it.
