Final Mock Up Front Cover
I usually start by thinking about the background but instead of doing that, I thought about what image I wanted to use. I wanted to find an image that would fit the whole page but would still give me room to put text and headlines etc. I eventually chose the one I have used. Once I had chose my image, I thought about the background. I decided to choose the splattered paint image just as before. I made it exactly the same so that it didnt look silly. I also made the banner at the top the same but I just added two more names to it because it didnt fit. I used exactly the same title which was the same font. The only thing I really changed was the main image, I put the slogan underneath the title and I added a few more stories on there. I also put the issue and the price at the bottom so that it looked a bit more proffessional.
I may rethink about the price of the magazine and change it later.

Final Mock up Double Page Spread
This is my mock up for my double page spread. I have decided to use this design for my final product because I really like it and I have made a front cover and contents page experimenting with this particular design. To start off with I thought of the background. I wanted the same background as the front cover and the contents page so I stuck with the splattered paint. I wanted to make the splattered paint image spread across the two pages but I thought it would look silly, so I decided to make two seperate images of the same thing. I thought that it looked a bit strange so I decided to flip one image 180 degrees so it was reflected onto the opposite page. I also thought that each image was to dark and you wouldnt be able to see the text, so I made the images lighter by editing them in Microsoft Fireworks.
Once I had got the background over with I thought about what image I wanted on one side of the page. I decided to use one of my own images but I couldnt decide which one. So eventually I went for the one I have used. I had to edit it in Fireworks because the background didnt look right at all. I got rid of the background completly so that you can see the background a lot better. I also sharpened the image so that it it really stands out.
The next thing that I thought about was the headline and the text. I wanted the headline to be simple and to tell the audience what they are about to read. Underneath the headline I wanted and catchphrase or sentence that really catches the reader's attention. However on the opposite page (the page with big image) I didnt want to much text because I thought it would ruin the page, so I just decided to put the name of the model at the top left and some information about what is on the next page in the other corner. I also put a text box on the left page so I know where the text for the interview would go.
Whilst I was working on this mock up, I suddenly realised that I needed to make a album cover for the singer because I wanted to put it on my double page spread. So I quickly made an image that I could use for the album cover. I remember looking at album cover a while ago and I really liked it so wanted to make GWS' album to look similar. Eventually, I went onto the internet and tried to look for some 'explosive' background images to use. I thought that because the image I wanted to use was black and red, I needed a background that had similar colours. I found the image I have used and thought it was perfect. There was a small space in the middle where I could place the photo and it really blended in.

Mock up contents page
I started with a blank canvas but the first thing I thought about was the images. I thought I would use one of the images I had taken myself instead of using one from the internet. I went through all of the images I had taken and eventually used one of the model standing up against the wall. I didnt want it to be a plain image on its own so I had an idea from a contents page I had looked at and decided to put an effect on. I decided to make into three images but make each one smaller and lighter each time (as you see).
The next thing I thought about was the title 'CONTENTS'. With this also I didnt want it to be a plain title across the top of the page. I wanted to make a bit different. So I decided to split it into two. I thought that this worked really well so I decided to do this with most of the text.
After that I thought having some kind of symbol or shape on the page to put the text in. I decided to use two arrows and make them grey with a black background. Then I decided to fill them with something so I decided to use text. I wasnt sure what text to put in it so I thought I would put the name of the bands in it. I thought that the colour of the text in the arrows would be white because it stands out and you can see it clearly. I used the same technique I used for the title by putting the first few letters of the word the other way round.
Another point about the images is that when I put them on I thought they looked too plain so I decided to put a thin black border around each one so they would stand out.

Contents Plan
Once the background was covered I thought about what I would think about the text. I couldnt find the exact font that I used on the front cover so I had to find one that was looked similar. However, the contents text such as the page numbers, I managed to find the font that was the same as I used on the front cover.
The next thing I thought about was the images. I wanted to find images that were related to music so I thought about finding images of famous musicians or singers. They looked too plain when I first put them onto the page so I decided to edit them on Microsoft Fireworks. I decided to make them look 3D so they looked like they stand out from the page, so I put an effect on each one which is called Bevel Boss. This puts a small border around each image making it stand out (as you can see).
Double Page Spread plan 3
First I decided that the background would be a different colour than plain. So I chose brown. I personally like the image because I have edited it so that it fits the page and looks like the model is standing against the side of the page. I also like the star next to the image because it stands out but I dont really think that it matches the rest of the page. It has given me an idea for my final product.
Results
Play the music, not the instrument
When words fail, music speaks
The Music Matters
Music's in the Soul
Overall the20 students thought that my first idea was the best (Play the music, not the instrument) so this is the one I am going to use on my final cover.

Mock Up Double Page Spread
Once I found the correct colour I looked for different images to put on the page.I didnt want to go with an image of westlife this time, so i went for another boyband that are a big hit. Take That. I looked for an image that had a similar colour tone to the background colour. Eventually, I found the image I have used. The band members are dressed in greys and blacks which are perfect colours. There was a background on the image but it didnt match the colour of the canvas so I got rid of it on Microsoft Fireworks
The next thing I thought about was the text. I didnt want the text to be a ridiculous colour or font so that it didnt match. So I went for plain white because you can see it and it matches all of the other colours. As for the text about the band (the interview) I thought I would keep them white aswell.
I also had the idea to put a small image related to the article such as a publicity shot or album cover (this is what I chose to put on the plan). I decided to choose an image of the album cover 'The Circus'. I thought I would put it in the corner on the right page underneath the text. I also wanted a small pattern of the right page just like my first plan, so I looked on the internet and finally found the image of the flowers. I really liked this particular image because it was black white and really matched the theme of the plan. I thought the right hand corner looked empty so I decided to put it there. I thought it would overlap the text or the text would overlap the image so it looks effective.
